CQC notification tracker

Registered providers must tell CQC about certain events without delay. Missing a notification is a breach of the Registration Regulations 2009 in its own right, and CQC can take enforcement action. A tracker makes sure each notifiable event is identified, sent and filed.

MyCareCompliance brings practical CQC audits, evidence, workforce oversight and improvement actions into one platform for adult social care providers.

Who it applies to

All CQC-registered providers and registered managers. The duty to notify sits with the registered person.

Events commonly notified

  • Death of a person using the service (Regulation 16 of the 2009 Regulations)
  • Serious injury
  • Abuse or allegation of abuse
  • Incidents reported to or investigated by the police
  • Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards applications and outcomes (care homes)
  • Events that stop or may stop the service running safely
  • Absence of the registered manager for 28 days or more
  • Changes to the provider, registered manager or statement of purpose

What a tracker should show

  • The source event (incident, safeguarding, DoLS) and date it happened
  • Whether it was notifiable, and who decided
  • Date notified and CQC reference
  • Any follow-up requested by CQC

Common findings

  • Safeguarding referrals made to the council but not notified to CQC
  • DoLS authorisations not notified
  • Serious injuries judged 'not serious enough' with no rationale

Internal audit questions

  1. 1.Has every incident and safeguarding concern been screened for notification?
  2. 2.Were notifications sent without delay?
  3. 3.Is the CQC reference kept for each?
  4. 4.Do incident, safeguarding and notification records agree?

Practical checklist

  • Incident log cross-checked monthly
  • Safeguarding log cross-checked
  • DoLS log cross-checked
  • References filed
  • Late or missed notifications investigated

How MyCareCompliance can help

MyCareCompliance has a CQC notifications area that guides you through each notification type, records when it was sent and keeps it with the related incident. MyCareCompliance does not send notifications to CQC for you — you still submit them through CQC's own service.
