Domiciliary care audit checklist

Home care is delivered out of sight, so audits are how a registered manager knows what is really happening. This checklist sets out the audits most agencies run each month and what each one should look at.

MyCareCompliance brings practical CQC audits, evidence, workforce oversight and improvement actions into one platform for adult social care providers.

7 days free. Plans from £24.99 per organisation per month, inclusive of VAT. Features vary by plan. Compare plans and trial terms.

Last reviewed: 28 September 2026. Independent guidance from AJG Advisory — not official CQC guidance. Always check the official sources listed below for current requirements.

Who it applies to

Domiciliary care and home care agencies registered with CQC for personal care in England.

Sample sizes

Record how many records you checked in each audit (for example, 10 of 42 MAR charts). A percentage without its sample size tells leaders very little.

Internal audit questions

  1. 1.Missed visits: were all missed visits identified, responded to and root-caused?
  2. 2.Late or shortened visits: are call durations close to commissioned time?
  3. 3.MAR: are there gaps, and was each investigated?
  4. 4.Care plans: are they personalised and reviewed on time?
  5. 5.Spot checks: has each carer had an observed visit in the period?
  6. 6.Staff files: DBS, right to work, references and training complete?
  7. 7.Complaints and feedback: logged, responded to and learned from?
  8. 8.Governance: were last month's actions completed and verified?

How MyCareCompliance can help

These are all ready-made audits in MyCareCompliance. Failed checks become actions with source, owner, due date and named verification, and the monthly governance report shows each rate with its denominator.
